350-Year-Old Newton's Puzzle Solved By 16-Year-Old

First time accepted submitter johnsnails writes "A German 16-year-old, Shouryya Ray, solved two fundamental particle dynamic theories posed by Sir Isaac Newton, which until recently required the use of powerful computers. He worked out how to calculate exactly the path of a projectile under gravity and subject to air resistance. Shouryya solved the problem while working on a school project. From the article: 'Mr Ray won a research award for his efforts and has been labeled a genius by the German media, but he put it down to "curiosity and schoolboy naivety." "When it was explained to us that the problems had no solutions, I thought to myself, 'well, there's no harm in trying,'" he said.'"

BUSINESS NEVER TASTED SO GOOD: MARK WARREN OF ...

This is not Mark Warren.

In recent times, when we think of the word, ?Entrepreneur? we think of something flashy or maybe technology driven.? Sometimes what we fail to realize is that there are dozens of entrepreneurs in our communities who are just as happy and just as knowledgeable as those entrepreneurs we read about in Forbes.

?

Marcus Warren of Soulful D?Lites is an entrepreneur with an abundance of knowledge about business and the restaurant industry.? His restaurant, Soulful D?Lites is a cozy storefront on historical, 52nd Street in Philadelphia.? The humble restaurant is known for its tasty twist on traditional soul food with a menu mostly comprised of the type of seafood dishes that you?d expect from a five star restaurant including, stuffed salmon and sauteed shrimp.

?

But that?s just part of the story.? What Marcus was able to accomplish is something tangible.? He represents the person who made some tough, yet simple, decisions in his life that led him to a comfortable lifestyle where he?s his own boss and has an impact on his community.? Below is just a few of the words of wisdom I was able to steal from him during our conversation.? If you want more, Soulful D?lites is located at 1214 N. 52nd Street in Philadelphia, 215-877-4400.

Mark Warren, owner of Soulful D'Lites

Soulful D?Lites will also be at Entr?e THIS SUNDAY!? Tickets are on sale now at www.cgm.bigcartel.com.

?

CC: Please introduce yourself.

?

MW: Marcus Warren, the owner and proprietor of Soulful D?Lites. 1214 N. 52nd Street [Philadelphia, PA]

?

CC: Can you tell us about your process from idea to reality?

MW: Well, at most of the restaurants I used to work for, I was a supervisor or manager.? ? And one of the responsibilities was to come up with different ideas and different food products.? So eventually I started to feel like I knew more than my supervisor.? So I said, ?I?m going to open up my own place.?? I?m already doing everything anyway, so what the heck?

?

CC: How were you able to overcome the fear of risk when opening your restaurant?

?

MW: I really never had a fear of risk.? What I can say is that anybody I ever talked to that had their own business said that if you love it and you put 110% in it, you?re going to get 110% back.? That?s how I look at it.? If I?m working hard, if I?m doing the right thing, constantly trying to learn about the business, because you never know everything, you?re good.? It?s always good to compare notes with people that have been in the business longer than you.? I?ve been in the business for a long time and since I?ve always been successful at every company I worked for, why can?t I do it for myself?? I can?t see me not making it if I?m already doing it for someone else.? And you gotta have quality people.? Don?t just accept anybody to work for you.? That?ll save you a lot of headaches.? You?re already going to have headaches without worrying about your people.

CC: What are some specific steps for opening a restaurant?

?

MW: Whatever you know now, learn a little bit more lol.? Think about budgeting and where you?re going to get your product from.? Make sure you get certified with your Serve Save license and your Business Privilege license.? And basically you need to know what you?re going to sell so you gotta get your menu together.? When you think about locations, think about the people and what people are you aiming to pull into your restaurant.? So what type of menu are you talking about? Heart Healthy? Old Trends? Bistro?? What type of customer base are you trying to shoot for?? Blacks? Latinos? Or the whole spectrum.

?

CC: Being in an area where there are a lot of other restaurants and food stands, how are you able to maintain a close relationship with your customers?

MW: Well you gotta talk to them.? If they got a complaint, not only listen but fix the problem.? You can?t just listen and not do anything about it.? Because one thing I realized is that the food business is tough.? A lot of times you can?t please everybody but you never stop trying.? To find out what the people want, you have to talk to them.? Sometimes I can?t get up to the front because we?re busy and I?m in the back but as much as I can, I try to come up front and speak with the people to see what they dislike or what can be improved.? Sometimes they just want you to add to what you already have.

?

CC: What are some of the more popular items on your menu?

?

MW: We sell a lot of salmon burgers, cornbread, turkey wings, the yams, collard greens.? We have a pan-seared spicy honey salmon and shrimp that they like.? Um, mussel scampi and we have a nice stuffed tilapia that?s sauteed and stuffed with sauteed spinach and shrimp.

?

CC: If I?m opening up a restaurant, what hurdles do I have to look out for?

MW: If you?re leasing other people?s property make sure that you can really handle the lease.? And that means knowing what the area is going for compared to what other businesses in the area are paying.? Make sure you have backup money if things are not quite working out so you can pay the lease until things pick up.? They don?t just pick right so you gotta have that backup money.? Me personally, I couldn?t get a loan but I had a little money saved up.? It wasn?t enough so I went back to working three jobs.? I worked two full time jobs and a part time job on the weekend.? I got tired of people telling me, ?no? so I did it myself.? I had the bare essentials and for three years straight, I just saved money.? You have to sacrifice something if you want this to happen.? Even if you get a loan from a bank, they?re not just going to give it to you.? You have to have something saved so they see that you?re striving to make this dream happen yourself.? So you have to really want it.

?

CC: What are your future plans?

?

MW: One of my next levels in the business is getting a bigger property.? I want it to be three floors.? A restaurant, take-out and delivery service on the first floor.? Second floor, catering hall / banquet hall and on the third floor, a night club / cafe.? And I want to have it so that we can throw different shows weekly with up and coming artists.? And I want to have something that?ll have entrepreneurs pull in young adults and show them the business.? Not just talk to them, but start them from the bottom and work your way to the top, like a real internship.? Let them really see the good and the bad in the business so they can make their way from there.? And we need to focus on our own people because a lot of us don?t have that mentality.? They say, ?I just want to get a job.?? It?s nothing wrong with that but how about if you create the job to give to somebody else?? If you?re a business owner, you don?t need a job because you?ve created one.

CC: Any last advice for aspiring entrepreneurs?

?

MW: A few things.? If that?s what you want to do don?t let anybody tell you you can?t do it.? You have to sacrifice something if you want to make it happen.? And keep honest people around you that want to work.? It?s always good to talk to other business people that way you can learn things and add to what you know.? Never stop learning and every chance you get look at other businesses like yours to get ideas.? Not necessarily their ideas but something that you can add your own spin on to upgrade your business.? And just constantly improve your business so that it can grow.

How to Choose a Good and Reliable Dentist

If you have moved to a new locality or your regular dentist is not available, it is important for you to find a new dental care specialist to take care of all problems related to your teeth because dental problems if not treated properly and at the earliest, can cause a number complexities, like swollen gums and bleeding not to mention the insurmountable pain. Instead of going through the pain it would always be better to have a dentist Las Vegas at hand who can tend to your teeth whenever the need arises. Now, let us see how to find a good and experienced dentist.

Well, the first advice would be to look into the yellow pages of the local telephone directory where you will find the names of several dentists along with their contact details. Another good source of information about dentist practicing in your locality is the internet.

With the advent of internet marketing, you can find details of quite a significant number of dentists in your area over the internet along with testimonials and recommendations from their clients. And if nothing works out, then you can always approach your friends, colleagues and relatives for recommendations of dentists whom they have visited and have had a satisfactory experience. The distance of the dentist?s clinic is also a matter to be considered while choosing a dentist for yourself and your family. The nearer the clinic to your home, is the better. But often you need to make a trade-off between the distance and the reputation of the dentist. Also, in case you are shifting home to a new place, you erstwhile dental care specialist can guide or refer you to a good dentist practicing in the area where you are moving in. Once you have a list of dentists to work upon, you can give them a call and set up a consultation meeting. Most dentists would offer a free consultation session where you can talk to the dentist about your problem and also get to know him better.

Firstly, if you are looking for any specific dental procedure like cosmetic surgery or root canal therapy or any corrective surgery, you should look for a dentist who is specialized in that particular field. A few things that you should check out are whether the dentist is a certified member of the American Dental Association (ADA) and how much experience in terms of years of practice he has to his name. You should also make sure that the doctor?s consultation and treatment is covered by your insurance policy. Often it so happens that after you choose a good and reputed dentist with a hefty fee, but then find out that the treatment at that particular clinic will not be covered by your insurance company. So you should thoroughly go through your insurance policy and clarify the clauses with either your dentist or the company. You should also look for a clinic with helpful staffs and quipped with the latest instruments for dentistry. Finally, you should see that the consultation hours of the dentist Las Vegas would suitable for you.

When should I be worried about my 1 month old ... - Health and Fitness

Question by Lovely: When should I be worried about my 1 month old possibly having Rheumatoid Arthritis?
My husbands niece just found out she has Rheumatoid Arthritis & my husbands dad has it also. My father-in-law just told me his dad had some form of Arthritis. When should I be concerned if my son has it? When can they start tests to see if has it? Thanks in advance for your answers!

Best answer:

Answer by Glorioso
I would not start testing your son right now (or in the immediate future.) arthritis can show up at any time, but it?s not detectable ahead of time. Instead be aware of the symptoms of arthritis: pain, redness, swelling, and/or heat concentrated in the joints; stiffness in the morning, or long periods of inactivity; reduced range of motion in the joints; general signs of being unwell (lethargy, reduced appetite, etc.) Joint symptoms with RA are usually symmetrical. It most commonly occurs in the hands, but can occur in other joints as well. If your kids does start showing those symptoms, try to get an appt. with a rheumatologist *quickly.* If necessary, giving your GP a list of symptoms, a family history, and a request for a referral should get you to a rheumy fairly promptly.

What do you think? Answer below!

New home sales and prices on the rise in April | Real Estate ...

By Dennis Norman, on May 25th, 2012

dennis-norman-st-louis-realtor-real-estate-new-home-salesToday, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and U.S. Census Bureau released new home sales data for April 2012 showing an increase of 3.3 percent from the month before, and an increase of 9.9 percent from a year ago. The seasonally-adjusted new home sales rate for April was 343,000 homes, up from a revised rate of 332,000 homes the month before. The supply of new homes on the market decreased to a 5.1 month supply from a revised 5.2 months the month before. The median new home price increased slightly to $235,700 from a revised median price of $234,000 the month before and increased 4.4 percent from a year ago when the median new home price was $224,700.

My Mantra

As has been my long-running mantra, I don?t like ?seasonally adjusted? numbers and ?rate? of sales. Why, for one I can?t figure out how in the world they compute the numbers. Second, I just don?t think discussing the ?rate? of new home sales paints a realistic picture of the market.

Here is the raw data, the ACTUAL new homes sold- no fluff, no ?adjusting? For April 2012:

  • 33,000 new homes sold, up from 32,000 the month before and up from 30,000 a year ago.
    • As usual, the South had the majority of the new home sales with 16,000 this month (48.5 percent of the total in US) down from 20,000 the prior month.
    • the west region had 9,000 new homes sold up from 7,000 the prior month.
    • the Midwest had 5,000 new homes sold up from 3,000 the prior month.
    • The Northeast had 3,000 new homes sold up from 2,000 the prior month.
  • New Homes in the US in sold during the month been for sale for a median time of 8.1 months since the homes were completed, up from a revised 8.0 months in the prior month.

What?s in store for 2012?

Mortgage delinquency rates and foreclosure rates have ticked up slightly recently, but are still at reduced rates which will begin lessening the downward impact on home prices foreclosures put on the market, which will be the first step toward stabilizing prices. I think it?s going to be a long process to get us back to the point where where existing home prices will increase to the point that there is not such a giant premium to pay for a new home as there is today, therefore I?m going to forecast a modest increase and am expecting to see somewhere between 304,000 ? 334,000 new homes sold in 2012.

Related posts:

  1. Existing home sales and prices increase in April; ?Housing recovery is underway
  2. New home sales and prices slip in March; both still better than a year ago
  3. New home sales and prices increase in April; still down over 23 percent from a year ago
  4. Tax Credit Deadline Spurs New Home Sales in April; Prices Drop
  5. New home sales decline slightly in January; Inventory of new homes to lowest level in over a year

Bernard-Henri L?vy: Kerouac at the Cinema

Early '70s. A bar at the Place Saint-Georges in Paris, where the shadow of Andr? Breton still hung in the air and where our master of masters, Jean-Toussaint Desanti, was fond of coming. In the atmosphere, there's still a bit of this "spirit of May," or this "feeling of May," that was so much a part of our youth. There's still a bit of the elation of those unreasonable times, of their poetry in action, of their back-and-forth of impatience and passion. There remains, as at the beginning of it all, the still burning desire for art as opposed to culture, a life instead of just survival, books that make one live, not die.

It's all still there and I see myself in this bar, once again, with a young militant Maoist called Marin Karmitz, today the author of two films, describing the law of "comrades" and the obligation to hit back, return "blow for blow" -- I can see myself, with him, talking about one of those books of life, legendary above all, a source of sustenance for young people refusing the inevitability of an timid existence, one somehow cracked or just rocked softly into precocious old age, a book like a bible, a treatise on savoir-vivre for the use of future generations, Jack Kerouac's On the Road.

In time, I understood that the book we know and that I had packed, along with Lowry's Under the Volcano and Artaud's Voyage to the Land of the Tarahumara, on my first trip to Mexico was not the right book -- a censored version, bowdlerized by the puritanical American publishers of the era.

I understood that its author was a nostalgic, perhaps even an adept, of this Roman Catholic and apostolic church whose fervent obligation -- ah, the famous "I am not a beatnik, I am a Catholic" of the preface of the 1960 Lonesome Traveler -- had been passed on to him by another sort of celestial bum, Charles Baudelaire.

I understood (but later, much, much later on, and to get to that understanding, I had to take another route, alone, one that was spiritual or, in any case, philosophic) that these roles of paper coming out of the shadowy mouth of the typewriter and constituting, end to end, one solitary and long paragraph, typed all in one breath, without punctuation, could not fail to evoke another roll -- and what a roll! -- the Torah... the letter of fire... devour the book... the lesson of Ezekiel following that of the Flowers of Evil... a prophetic, almost Jewish Kerouac. But, of course.

I understood that this literature known as "direct" or "spontaneous" or "stream of consciousness," this pulsating, jazzed literature, written while on dexedrine and typed, it's said, the way Count Basie's hands fluttered over the keyboard, or Charlie Parker blew on his sax, was one of the most thought out, concentrated, honed and perfected. I understood that his models were Joyce, Pound, Dostoyevsky, Rabelais, Celine or, especially, things past and found again: "to do exactly what Proust did, but fast," the very expression of a plan that could scarcely be confused with that of a literature of the gut.

And then I finally learned, even later, much later, from Paul Bowles in Tangiers, that Kerouac, one day, had had enough of this book, he cursed it, he hated it. There are books like that, said Paul Bowles; for me it was Tea in the Sahara, for him, On the Road, books of life that, in becoming cults, turn into books of death. Magical books that ultimately weigh you down, crush you, suffocate your desire to go on writing and living; books that damn you, books as heavy as tombstones and that, in the final analysis, one can only die of -- this terrible "mortal shiver" his other friend, Allen Ginsberg, discerned in him towards the end.

But then, forty years have passed. Kerouac's children are called Kurt Cobain, Tom Waits, Jim Jarmusch. And the son of the Moaist filmmaker of the early 70s, the film heir as unruly as his father was, who sports a first name that conveys the eternal and Gidesque youth the latter passed on to him, got hold of this book and informed of what we did not know and that he realized from the very beginning, made of it an impressive cinematic work. A Proustian film. A Rimbaldian one. One of those films (Rimbaud, precisely...The Search... Malraux's The Human Condition... C?line) we always thought impossible, still-born, inevitable sea serpents regularly pulled out of Limbo, only to immediately return. But no, here it is.

No longer Marlon Brando and James Dean, as Kerouac had dreamed, but Garrett Hedlund and Sam Riley, their younger brothers. Not Francis Ford Coppola who, in 1968, had acquired the rights to the book, but a Walter Salles we have never seen so much a master of his art. And, at the finish, a magnificent ode to the road, a road that has become an ode since road, in Greek, is odos. A work of liberty, but of a liberty that is no longer at the end of a gun barrel, as the fathers, and even more, the fathers of the fathers believed, but at the end of this road that has become language and, this time, image. The language of asphalt blended with that of the verb. A long ribbon of blacktop and of equally burning words. Molten matter of syllables and inspired macadam. American vertigo. A prize of literature become cinema. We shall see.

GameStop's annual EXPO opens up to general public, monitor tan required for entry

Image

Outdoor concerts, European music festivals, keggers -- whatever your concept of summer fun is, GameStop's adding its own EXPO to the list. Previously the exclusive province of its own employee horde, the gaming retailer's opening up its annual conference to the pasty-faced public for the first time this year. You'll have to be a PowerUp Rewards member to get an invite for the video game-centric shindig, but after that, entry is merely a two-tiered level of commitment away -- general admission costs a mere $35, while the VIP perks'll ring up at a $100 premium. The happening's set to take place during the Dog Days of August -- the 29th to be exact -- in San Antonio, Texas, where interested gamers can gawk and, presumably, play upcoming releases, rub shoulders with notable industry types and just feel like a member of a greater geek community. Sure, it's no Lilith Fair Redux, but you gotta take what you can get. Official presser after the break.

Letter from Mother of 14 Year Old Filmmaker ... - Film School Secrets

I received this great email from Kim W. of Florida, who homeschools her daughter. Thought I would share it with y?all.

Hello Seth,

I am the homeschooling mother of a 14-year old aspiring filmmaker.? Interestingly, I stumbled upon your website while researching film schools the week after we participated in a ?Behind the Scenes Tour? of Full Sail University in Orlando, FL.? As we embark on the high school years, homeschooling offers us the flexibility to not only obtain college credit simultaneously, but cultivate the interests and talents of our child.? Thus, I began researching the education needs for a filmmaker.

I must admit Full Sail University was an impressive campus.? The state-of-the-art facilities and equipment combined with the accelerated degree program (24 months for a bachelor?s degree) was attractive.? However, it comes with a price, $80,000 + lodging + the cost of a MACBOOK PRO laptop.

Since taking the tour, researching film schools and the film industry, as well as subscribing to your blog, I am becoming increasingly convinced that the filmmaking trade can be self-taught and cultivated by networking.? After all, ?it is not WHAT you know, but WHO you know,? and this applies to filmmaking and the entertainment industry, in general.

I thought I would share some of our testimony on the filmmaking journey for the purposes of echoing your sentiments and hopefully to be an encouragement to other families with aspiring filmmakers.

Here is a movie trailer by our 14-year old daughter for her most recent short film (and a sequel), created in Final Cut Pro X and Motion 5.? Keep in mind that she has had no formal training in photography, videography, filmmaking, or post-production/software editing!? The trailer was created in Final Cut Pro X after only a week of downloading the software (but based on experience with iMovie).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QU6g9tbdAMM

The following suggestions have worked for us and echo your sentiments on the film industry:

1)? Providing the tools (cameras, gear, computer, software) she needs for pre- to post-production to the best of our ability.? The trailer was shot with an iPad2, iPod touch4 and GoPro Hero2 camera.? ?Start simple and work up to more expensive gear as your budget permits.? The fundamentals of film making can still be learned with basic gear.

2)? Networking in the industry.? She took an audition workshop with an Orlando casting director last summer.? Through that connection, she has been in 3 commercials which has provided an income for purchasing more film gear.? This experience has also given her perspective in front of the camera.
Most importantly, we have gotten to know the directors/producers on the commercials and plan to ?shadow? them this summer on some of their projects.? One of the directors is big time in the Orlando area with 30 years experience and has a real heart to mentor aspiring filmmakers.? We are very excited about this opportunity!

3) Providing examples of excellence.? She loves to read and watch behind-the-scenes commentary books/DVD special features for her favorite movies like ?Star Wars? and ?The Chronicles of Narnia.?? You learn a lot by listening to the experts in the field discuss the details of their films.

4)? Providing opportunities and experiences.? All of her spare time is spent filming or editing.? We always have a camera with us and do our best to make the story lines and images that she sees in her head a reality.? We learn something new every time we are out filming and her movies get better and better with each one.

Lastly, I?d like to share a website that the Orlando director, who we hope to work with this summer, recommended to us.? It is for the George Lucas Education Foundation and is about what works in education.? The public school system and universities are geared for left brain learners.? Most aspiring filmmakers are right brain learners whose innovation and creativity is squelched in this learning environment.? ?http://www.edutopia.org/mission-vision

Basic Differences between IPL T20 Cricket and Test Cricket

The IPL t20 cricket is a home league in India, contested by 10 totally different teams (9 teams are participating in 2012) from massive Indian cities resembling Chennai and Delhi. Groups are composed of gamers bought by the clubs at an public sale that is held before the start of every IPL t20 cricket season, where teams are restricted by an overall spending limit, however can pay more than $1million for famous person cricketers--this occurred in the 2009 season, when English batsmen Kevin Pietersen and Andrew Flintoff were each purchased for $1.55 million. Test cricket, nevertheless, is competed between the ten International Cricket Council member nations, which embrace England, South Africa, Australia and Bangladesh. Players in take a look at sides qualify to play for nations both via parentage or if they've lived in a rustic for 4 continuous years.

IPL Format

The IPL t20 cricket is a one-day format of t20 cricket competed over the course of 20 over per aspect, who each bat solely as soon as, and can put on any coloration kits they choose.

For instance, Crew A bats 20 over and scores 178. Team B must bat and attain 179 to win inside 20 over, without shedding 10 wickets. Many further scoring alternatives can be found to batting groups, akin to a? free hit for each no-ball incurred by a bowler over-stepping the crease--batsmen can solely be dismissed via a run-out? after a free hit. The powerplay rule is in impact between the first and eighth over, the place the fielding workforce can solely have a sure variety of fielders 30 or more yards from the batting square. The IPL season operates first via two totally different groups (A and B) earlier than a semifinal and final is contested by the top two teams from each group.

Test Cricket Format

Take a look at cricket matches--where teams should put on white kits and colored helmets and hats--last for 5 days, though some days are abandoned in inclement climate conditions. Unlike the IPL, which is restricted by the number of over, test cricket is dictated by time. Each side is designated to bat twice, attempting to amass a higher overall rating than its opponents over two innings, but this ends once a side loses 10 wickets per innings. A scheduled day of test cricket lasts seven hours, with six hours' play, 40 minutes for lunch and 20 minutes for tea. Play is divided into three two-hour periods, during which a total of 90 over are alleged to be bowled. If a match reaches the end of the fifth day and neither side has won (by taking 20 wickets from its opposition and scoring a higher whole of runs) the match is drawn. In contrast to the IPL, there are no free hits or powerplays.

The IPL was created in 2008 to provide an exciting, quick-paced format of the game that may curiosity people who had not beforehand engaged with the game of cricket in any format. Many cricket followers, media and former players reluctantly settle for the increase that the IPL and Twenty20 format, as a whole, has provided for the game, but tremendously prefer the extreme and rewarding feeling from take a look at cricket. IPL matches are very well attended, as spectators can witness the whole lot of a match? within round three hours, whereas test cricket plays out over the course of 5 seven-hour days, so fails to catch the? curiosity of the floating fan--it is thought to be a format for purists and elementary cricket fans.

Private entity offers hope to cancer patients : Kaieteur News

?

?

A total of 1,137 patients have received treatments so far, for various types of cancer from the Cancer Institute of Guyana (CIG), located in the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) compound.
Cancer is a class of diseases characterized by out-of-control cell growth. There are more than 100 different types of cancer. Each is classified by the type of cell that is initially affected.

Cancer Institute of Guyana

Cancer harms the body when damaged cells divide uncontrollably to form lumps or masses of tissues called tumors (except in the case of leukemia where cancer prohibits normal blood function by abnormal cell division in the blood stream.)
In Guyana, the most common types of cancer are cervical, breast, leukemia, prostate and colorectal cancer. This is according to the radiation oncologist, Dr. Narendra Bhalla.
Dr. Bhalla was brought to Guyana from Chicago under the sponsorship of Global Imaging Service, a sister company of CIG, to start the clinic, to evaluate and to select patients for radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatment.
Global Imaging Service/CIG is a private institute and a project of the Ministry of Health/GPHC. It was inaugurated in June 2006.
Global Imaging Service, which is located in St Joseph Mercy Hospital, Kingston offers MRI, CT Scans and Ultrasounds while CIG offers Oncology Consultations, mammography, Pap Smears, Chest X-Rays, Chemotherapy, External Beam Radiation Therapy, Intra Cavity Radiation Therapy, CT Scans and Bone Density Scans.
At CIG, a Linear Accelerator machine is available to provide radiation therapy for patients who are diagnosed with cancer.
According to Dr. Bhalla, cancer is a growing medical problem in Guyana and the number of persons who seek treatment continues to grow each month. The most common types of cancers being treated at CIG are cervical, prostate and breast cancer.
The Radiation Oncologist stated that brain tumor and lung cancer are the most serious types of cancer while breast and prostate cancer are actually the ?good type if they are caught at an early stage.?
He said that patients visit the institute when the cancer is at various stages. ?Some come at stage four and when it is at that stage, the survival level is less and the treatment is also less. Those patients suffer the most while the patients who come at an early stage are doing well.?
Dr. Bhalla said that once a patient has been diagnosed with cancer and undergoes surgery, he or she is supposed to have regular check-ups up to five years.
?Cancer can come back so we have to keep regular check-ups. After five years we can say it is cured,? Dr. Bhalla noted.
When asked about some of the challenges he encountered with patients coming from GPHC, he said the hospital process is too slow. ?If I need blood transfusion the process can take two weeks when it should take only one day privately. The doctors? report takes three to four weeks when it is supposed to take only one week.?
Other than that, he said the institute is doing good and giving its ?all? to patients. It is advised that women who are sexually active or are 18 years and older should have annual pap smears and pelvic examinations.
All females over 40 years of age should have an annual mammography for breast cancer. (Romila Boodram)

Defining Moment (The Note)

By MICHAEL FALCONE ( @michaelpfalcone ) and AMY WALTER ( @amyewalter )

NOTABLES: ?

DEFINE OR BE DEFINED: With Democrats trashing Mitt Romney's business record at Bain Capital, the presumptive Republican nominee is attempting to wage the presidential campaign on his terms. He released his first general election television ad today - a seemingly positive vision of his top priorities if elected. But as ABC News Political Director Amy Walter points out, the ad amounts to a subtle - but razor-sharp - contrast to President Obama.

IN THE HOUSE: ?A "This Week" exclusive on Sunday. ABC's George Stephanopoulos sits down with House Speaker John Boehner and Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi about simmering tensions on Capitol Hill on the budget, taxes and other key issues.

NOTE IT! In our virtual political roundtable, ABC's Amy Walter on why Republicans are all of a sudden walking with a spring in their step and Rick Klein on the perils of the super PAC era.

THE NOTE:

During a week when Democrats kept Mitt Romney on defense with their attacks on his work at a private equity firm - attacks that Romney said he considers "character assassination" - the presumptive Republican nominee attempted to regain his footing by unveiling his first television ad of the general election.

The ad, titled "Day One" envisions the first day of a Romney presidency, and according to the 30-second spot, it will be a busy one. (WATCH:? http://bit.ly/Johw5H)

"President Romney immediately approves the Keystone pipeline,?creating thousands of jobs that Obama blocked," the ad's announcer says. ?"President Romney introduces tax cuts and reforms that reward job creators, not punish them. President Romney issues order to begin replacing Obamacare with commonsense health care reform."

The ad will run in several battleground states, including Virginia, Ohio, Iowa and North Carolina.

But the Romney campaign's description of this as a "positive" ad should get a "pants on fire" rating. It is simply a criticism of the Obama administration but with pretty images and softer tones instead of ominous music and scary voices.

It follows on the heels of a one-two punch earlier this week from the Obama campaign and an allied super PAC, Priorities USA Action, which attacked Romney's record at Bain Capital. Both released television ads highlighting job losses at a Kansas City steel company taken over by Bain.

"The issue that will never go away - Mitt Romney's career as a corporate raider and his creation of Romney Economics," Democratic National Committee spokesman Brad Woodhouse noted this morning, introducing a new web video that keeps Bain front and center. (WATCH: http://youtu.be/No0jNi5Vv3U)

It's more evidence that the Obama campaign and Democrats are doing everything they can to try to define Romney faster than he can define himself.

"The purpose of the president's ads are not to describe success and failure, but somehow to suggest that I'm not a good person or not a good guy," Romney said at a campaign stop in Florida yesterday, "and I think the American people will know better than that."

Nevertheless, the former Massachusetts governor's challenge is clear.

"He must demonstrate how and why the man who ran Bain Capital, the man who relished 'creative destruction,' the man who gave Obamacare a test run in Massachusetts and who knows of?NASCAR?only through his acquaintances with various team owners provides the better choice for a more hopeful, more prosperous America," Republican strategist Ford O'Connell notes in a US News commentary. "He doesn't have to be perfect. He doesn't have to be likeable. But he does have to be someone we think we know and understand." http://bit.ly/KjgIic

NOTE IT!

ABC's RICK KLEIN: It's not that pretty, but we may have stumbled onto something important about the super PAC era in the events of the last 24 hours. The fact that the public learned the identity of the person considering Jeremiah Wright ads - a person who founded a major online brokerage and whose family controls a baseball team - contributed mightily to the fact that the ad isn't running, and may never run. The major players in super PACs haven't been shadowy figures, they've been out in the sunlight, or at least close enough to it that they have the potential to wilt in its shine.

ABC's AMY WALTER: For the first time since this cycle, Republican strategists and politicos are starting to really believe that Romney can win this thing. A combination of strong polling numbers nationally and in traditionally blue states like Wisconsin, combined with good fundraising numbers (and a lack of Democratic firepower on the super PAC side) has given the GOP a spring in their step that had been missing for much of the last few months.

?

THIS WEEK ON "THIS WEEK": EXCLUSIVE - JOHN BOEHNER AND NANCY PELOSI. George Stephanopoulos speaks exclusively to House Speaker John Boehner and House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, Sunday on "This Week." Will Congress take action on renewed battles over the budget and taxes during an election year? How will dysfunction in Washington impact the race between President Obama and Mitt Romney? And which party will win control of the House in November? See Boehner and Pelosi this Sunday, only on "This Week."

Plus, the "This Week" powerhouse roundtable debates all the week's politics, with ABC News' George Will, political strategist and ABC News contributor Donna Brazile, radio host Laura Ingraham, and California Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom. http://abcnews.go.com/ThisWeek/ (h/t Imtiyaz Delawala)

VEEP BEAT: Our daily look at all the action on the veepstakes front, brought to you by ABC's Arlette Saenz ( @ArletteSaenz ):

RUBIO WARNS OF 'DAILY' DEBT CEILING CRISIS: ?While Congress won't have to vote on raising the debt ceiling until, Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., still warned that the country is facing a debt ceiling crisis "daily" and criticized Secretary Treasury Timothy Geithner's suggestion that a debt ceiling crisis does not exist.??We are having a debt ceiling crisis on a daily basis, and here's why," Rubio said in a FOX News interview Thursday. "Because this government every year is spending $1.5 trillion more than it takes in."? http://abcn.ws/LYacRv

RUBIO ON VEEPSTAKES: ?"I'm curious to see who it's going to be." ("Your World with Neil Cavuto," 5.16.12)

MEET THE RUBIOS: ?In her first ever extended interview, Jeanette Rubio joined her husband Marco Rubio to discuss their family life with Politico and expressed that she is prepared for whatever scrutiny the couple may undergo as his national profile begins to rise.??"I'm prepared for the idea that no matter what he does - especially when there's talk of him being the VP candidate - that [there] are things that are going to come out," Jeannette Rubio told Politico.. "And through the Senate campaign, we already went through a lot. ? That really prepared us, or at least me." The interview shares the story of how they met, endured distance relationship in the age of no-Skype (Marco Rubio wrote long letters), and how they maintain a strong family.?? http://politi.co/JWu4Wi

CONDI: 'I DON'T REALLY LOVE POLITICS'? ?ABC News' Emily Friedman highlights this NBC Chicago report that Condoleezza Rice again said she will not be Mitt Romney's running mate, saying she doesn't really have that loving feeling for politics. "Not going to happen," she told the audience. "I love policy, I don't really love politics," Rice said at a speech in Chicago Thursday.??"One can do a lot with policy not in Washington." http://bit.ly/JjLoqk

?

VIDEO OF THE DAY: GEORGE ON JOHN. George Stephanopoulos tackles the question "can John Edwards come back?" in the latest installment of George's "Bottom Line" part of ABC's News/Yahoo!'s Power Players Series.?"But even an acquittal is only the beginning" Stephanopoulos says. "To understand why, look no farther than a? recent?New York Times/CBS News poll?showing that Edwards' approval rating is an unfathomably low 3% - and that drops to 2% among women. I've never seen an approval rating so low in any kind of poll."? http://abcn.ws/L3pQJe

ROMNEY REJECTS ADS AIMING TO TIE OBAMA TO REV. JEREMIAH WRIGHT . Yesterday Mitt Romney rejected reports of a plan to air attack ads against President Obama by rehashing ties to his former pastor, the controversial Rev. Jeremiah Wright, reports ABC's Emily Friedman. The plan, which was first reported by the New York Times on Thursday, had a $10 million price tag, and was? developed by "a group of high-profile Republican strategists" and Joe Ricketts, the founder of TD Ameritrade.? http://abcn.ws/ Jy7a7y
