Rocker Life Coach ? Time for an Entrepreneur Education? YES

So in this week of great ideas for where we need entrepreneurs in our world, I have something to write on from the suggestion box. My wonderful wife said to me on Monday when I started this theme, ?You need to do one on education,? only to be followed up three minutes later from someone else who said ?You need to do one on education.?

So let?s talk about schools and the education system in our country. Before all you teachers send me hate mail I want you all to read this and not take what I say as gospel, not take it as the basis to start an argument. Instead, if you think my ideas don?t or won?t work, ask yourself this: ?Shouldn?t I still be looking for newer ideas??

As I mentioned early in the week about the church that was growing with entrepreneur ideas, they added many ministries each and every year. They were always looking for ways to get people to come by and just visit anything going on at the church. That is why they have sports teams, they have a food pantry, they have a great meeting and food center, as well as a weekly business luncheon. All to offer people things they need from the service of a church.

Now I know I mentioned church two times in one week, so let?s get to my rant on education. I have a father-in-law who was a professor; I have a wife who is very highly educated; my father went back to school at 40 to get his degree to teach kids; and even my brother Ken has done the same.

I hear so many people tell how they are going to school to become a professor or a teacher. Then I?m reminded of the comedy film with Rodney Dangerfield, Back to School. While the part he plays is a rather questionable businessman, the film had a point.

The business professor was teaching kids how to be in business and he himself had never run a real business in the real world. I know this has changed, as I know several business owners who are teaching classes to young kids now in our local community colleges.

I think our schools as far down as junior high should be teaching entrepreneur thinking to our kids. We should be solving not just our math problems, but learning how to do some of those things we thought were dumb in high school. We should have an entrepreneur class that teaches our kids how the things they are learning will apply to the real world.

We need to be teaching college kids how to start and create things like the multi-level marketing companies. Imagine a school that was just for entrepreneurs. This is just one of the many things that should be taught, but imagine if someone like Donald Trump were teaching a class at a school, how many business people do you know would sign up for that class?

Or let?s imagine Tony Robbins teaching a class on being a peak performance person in life. How many would attend that class?

But wait; these people are teaching and people are paying thousands of dollars to attend a 3-day and 4-day event where they come away with a new life it seems.

I have an idea for an entrepreneur boot camp and I just may put this into action. Imagine this: 10 people can get in to the class; they each have to put up $5,000. Then they come to a house setting where they have to live and learn ideas. We have several entrepreneurs who come in and teach, and then they have to create an idea or business to graduate. The business must be making a profit, and the one who has the most successful business gets a cash bonus to help take his company to the next level.

Ok, I?ll work on that one. In the meantime, what?s your thought on how we should apply entrepreneurialism to our schools?

I?m Tim Gillette, the Rocker Life Coach. It?s time to live your dream, to love what you do and those you share life with. Entrepreneurial education will lead you to being the RockStar in your world.

As Isaac fades, sparring over disaster funding

NEW ORLEANS (Reuters) - The remnants of Hurricane Isaac brought heavy rainfall and the threat of flash flooding to the Mississippi Valley on Friday as Gulf Coast residents cleaned up and energy facilities prepared to grind back into operation.

Major offshore oil drillers returned staff to their platforms in the Gulf of Mexico, although operations were expected to take several days to ramp up. One Louisiana refinery tapped into the U.S. government's emergency crude oil stockpile to speed up its output.

The first hurricane to hit the United States this year will be remembered for striking New Orleans on the anniversary of 2005's deadly Hurricane Katrina - and providing a first, successful test of the city's new $14.5 billion flood controls put together in the wake of Katrina.

"We are now fully in the cleanup and recovery phase of this storm," said New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu.

President Barack Obama, who declared a disaster in Mississippi and Louisiana on Wednesday, is scheduled to visit the region on Monday.

Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, fresh from his party's convention in Tampa, Florida, pre-empted Obama by touring a flooded community in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, Friday afternoon, along with Governor Bobby Jindal.

Democrats pounced on Romney, whose running mate, Rep. Paul Ryan, this year proposed eliminating disaster relief spending from the federal budget and requiring Congress to pay for emergencies like hurricane relief by making other budget cuts.

In a statement, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid called Romney's visit "the height of hypocrisy."

Isaac left some homes in the state under 12 feet of water. More than 500,000 homes and businesses across Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas were still without electricity Friday.

TORNADOES STILL LIKELY

At least four deaths were attributed to Isaac in the United States and at least 23 people were killed by the storm in Haiti and the Dominican Republic earlier.

The storm caused anywhere from $700 million to $2 billion in insured onshore losses, disaster modeler AIR Worldwide said late Thursday, well outside the 10 most costly U.S. hurricanes.

The National Hurricane Center said Isaac, once a Category 1 hurricane and now a tropical depression, was still likely to trigger tornadoes in the central U.S. Midwest states - among the final acts of a storm that often confounded forecasters and punched above its weight in terms of damage.

Rain from Isaac was a godsend for Midwest farmers suffering from the worst drought in more than 50 years. Even if too late for many of this season's crops, the rain will replenish soil moisture in time for winter wheat planting and boost critically low river levels.

Isaac caused widespread flooding and property damage in the U.S. Gulf Coast region, mostly because of its heavy and persistent rainfall. The system lingered near New Orleans for the better part of two days, sometimes moving as slowly as 5 miles per hour (8 km per hour).

Through it all, New Orleans sustained mostly cosmetic damage including downed trees and street lights.

Life was slowly returning to normal in the city on Friday, although most of it was still without power after what utility Entergy Corp described as the fourth-largest storm it had ever faced.

National Guard troops opened three sites around New Orleans to distribute water, ice and prepackaged meals to residents on a warm, steamy day. Gasoline was still hard to find as well.

New Orleans International Airport reopened early on Friday, and the Port of New Orleans also reopened, in time for the arrival of the 2,052-passenger Carnival Elation cruise ship.

'WE DID GOOD'

In residential areas outside the city center, streets were littered with downed limbs and some trees were uprooted. Residents were out clearing debris.

"I am surprised how much debris there is everywhere," said David Doucet, 55, a member of the Grammy award-winning Cajun band Beau Soleil, as he walked his dog in downtown New Orleans. "The trees have had seven years to grow since Katrina but they didn't grow all that strong."

In New Orleans' Lower Ninth Ward, famously laid to waste by Hurricane Katrina, Robert Green sat on the porch of his house, one of some 150 built so far by Make It Right, an organization founded and supported by actor Brad Pitt.

"We did good. We lost two people on the 29th of August 2005, my mother and my granddaughter. And this was the first chance we've had to ride out a storm as a family," Green said. "We passed the test."

New Orleans' Audubon Park recorded 18.7 inches of rain in a 24-hour period during Isaac. That exceeded records dating to 1871, said Jeff Masters of Weather Underground. Many other locations in Louisiana and Mississippi logged more than 10 inches of rain.

Surrounding areas, though, without the new protective federal flood barriers, did not fare as well from the relentless rain and huge storm surges.

Some of the worst flooding was in Plaquemines Parish, southwest of New Orleans, where at least one levee was topped, leaving many homes under about 12 feet of water.

Slidell, northeast of New Orleans, took the brunt of a storm surge from Lake Pontchartrain, which left some neighborhoods under about a foot of water - much of which had receded by Friday.

PLEA FOR MORE FUNDS

"You'd have never made me believe a Category 1 would dump this much water," said Sam Caruso, 71, a former mayor of Slidell who toured the town in his pickup truck on Thursday.

As the flood waters rose, some residents, including Caruso, wondered whether the new federal levee system had shored up New Orleans at the expense of low-lying neighboring parishes outside the system's protection - a debate that is likely to continue.

Louisiana Senator Mary Landrieu made a plea on Friday for additional federal funds to build protective levees in the state, while noting that the Army Corps of Engineers has a meager budget for construction projects.

Brent crude oil was up $2.28 to $114.93 a barrel on Friday, although major oil facilities on the Gulf of Mexico made it through Isaac mostly unscathed.

BP Plc and Royal Dutch Shell both said they were returning staff to their Gulf offshore oil platforms on Friday. Production could take several days to ramp up to pre-Isaac levels.

Louisiana's coastal oil refineries also began to power back up. Most came through Isaac unscathed.

The Department of Energy will loan 1 million barrels of crude oil from emergency reserves to Marathon Petroleum Corp after the firm's Garyville, Louisiana, refinery cut its run rate ahead of the hurricane. A larger tapping of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve is possible.

Storm watchers have turned to Tropical Storm Leslie, currently 715 miles east of the Leeward Islands with wind speeds picking up to 65 miles per hour. Leslie could become a hurricane over the weekend, posing a potential threat to Bermuda next week.

A simple guide to investing in mutual fund ? The Punch - Nigeria's ...

What is a Mutual Fund?

A mutual fund can be defined as an entity that pools cash from a variety of investors for the sole purpose of investing the cash in shares, bonds, treasury bills etc (all together called a portfolio of investments). The profit derived from the diversified pool of investments are shared to investors in the funds annually or semi annually or as stipulated in the fund prospectus.

Who operates a mutual fund?

Mutual funds are operated by professional investment firms made up of people who are savvy with the money and capital market. Mutual Fund, as in Nigeria, can be operated by the investment arm of banks, stock brokerage firms, investment banks etc.

How is it different from a stockbroking firm?

A stockbroking firm is simply a company that on your behalf and instruction uses its licence to buy and/or sell shares on the stock market. With a stock brokerage firm, you give them an instruction to buy or sell shares of your choice. You also keep tabs on the performance of your stocks on a daily basis and monitor its performance independently. For a mutual fund, however, operators determine which Investment decisions to make rather than you giving instruction as to what shares should be bought for you or which you intend to sell. The shares you buy with the mutual fund is that of the fund and not that of the companies quoted on the stock exchange or indeed any quoted investments.

What do they invest in?

They invest in the money and capital market. Money Market instruments are Treasury Bills, Certificate of Deposits, Commercial Paper etc. In Nigeria, Banks and discount houses issue these instruments. Capital Markets are where Bonds, Stocks (Shares) are traded on a daily basis. Most mutual funds usually outline the type of investments they hope to make with money in their prospectus.

How much can I invest?

Mutual Funds typically have an investment band depending on the nature of the fund. Some can be as low as a minimum of N5,000, whilst some can be N100,000 and others N1,000,000.

What kind of dividends can I expect?

This depends on your risk appetite. For example, if you have N1,000.00 and think you can invest it in any business of your choice and get a profit of N20 per cent, then investing in a mutual fund that promises 14 per cent returns may not be a good idea for you. The return a mutual fund promises you should also be compared to returns one can get on risk free investments such as treasury bills etc. For example, if a Mutual Fund promises a minimum return of 12 per cent per annum and government pays interest of 14 per cent on Treasury Bills, then investing your self may just be a better idea. In general mutual funds will typically offer minimum returns that are benchmarked above inflation rates.

Do I pay tax on dividends received and when I liquidate my investment?

Yes, dividends from Mutual Funds in Nigeria are not tax-free. Withholding tax will be deducted before dividends are paid to you. However, you do not pay capital gains tax when you sell your shares in the fund. Losses from Mutual Fund investment cannot also be used to offset taxable profits.

What are open and closed mutual funds?

Open Ended Mutual Funds are funds that are open to continuous issuance of shares to investors. Operators of the fund continue to issue shares to the public to buy into the fund. Investors in the fund who do not wish to participate any further will simply resell their shares to the fund at the subsisting Net Asset Value. They can also reinvest in the funds whenever they want. Some Open Ended Funds also mandate you to keep your money with them for a specified period of time before you can sell or request for your money back. Open Funds are mostly unregulated and are not traded on the floor of the stock exchange. They are mostly floated by reputable organisations with a track record for performance

Closed Ended funds on the other hand are funds that have limited number of shares that are sold at the initial public offering (IPO). Once the IPO is over, the fund closes sale of its shares to the public. Being a regulated fund, the shares are traded on the stock exchange like the shares of any quoted company. So, if an investor decides he wants his money back he will simply put up his shares for sale. The share price of a closed fund is determined by both the value of the portfolio as well as the sentiments of investors towards demand and supply. This is unlike the Open Funds that are determined by simply dividing the value of the portfolio by the number of shares issues by the fund. The Securities and Exchange Commission as well as the NSE regulates closed ended funds. They play by the rules set by the regulatory authorities. Their share prices are also published daily on the pages of newspapers and can also be found on the Internet.

Why The Demand For E-Commerce Fulfillment Services Is Growing ...

The demand for e-commerce fulfillment services is seeing a dramatic increase as companies seek out integrated systems to service the rising number of online consumers. ?This is a natural response to the changing way in which people are shopping. Several years ago, the Internet saw a significant escalation in online shoppers as people grew increasingly comfortable using online auction sites and other web-based selling platforms to find and secure goods.? The comfort level to exchange financial details has spread across broader consumer demographics and now, even older individuals who were formerly suspicious of online sales are now an emerging segment of participating in ecommerce.? Currently, many shoppers are now transitioning these sales activities to their mobile devices.

Creating Customers Via Mobile Connectivity

The introduction and adaptation of tablets has certainly helped to further the interest in online buying. ?Through the use of tablets and smart phones, people are now inundated with limited-time offers that inspire and encourage impulse purchases. Companies dabbling in neuromarketing have furthered this trend. ?Currently, more than half of all smartphone users are reported to be using mobile shopping apps.? Additionally, the conversion rate for tablet owners is now just 8% lower than that of desktop users.

For businesses, this has meant continual influxes of qualified traffic that is having a positive effect on their ecommerce sales. ?With the increase in sales, many companies are searching for options to streamline their operations, manage their expenses and continue to provide superior customer service.? For many companies outsourcing their e-commerce fulfillment services is the answer to accomplish all of this.

Convergence and The Ensuing Onslaught Of Techno-Consumerism

Technology is not just improving it is converging. ?In fact, studies have shown that the average individual has at least 2.5 ways of connecting to the web and at least one of these is kept continually on hand throughout the majority of the day. Another development has been the inclusion of social networking in major life events, decisions and even purchases. ?People have access to information and research as they make online purchases.? As a full convergence looms, and the average gadget user become less and less likely to make major decisions apart from any form of web connectivity, companies must prepare for the increase in ecommerce transactions.

Where E-commerce Fulfillment Comes In

E-commerce fulfillment services help businesses to capitalize by providing scalability. ?Companies, who are prepared for the changing minds and actions of consumers as technology converges, will be best able to glean maximum profits from new online spending habits. ?The most comprehensive of e-commerce fulfillment services will provide everything from warehousing, inventory management software, order fulfillment, marketing logistics and Internet marketing services.? They dramatically reduce the supply chain and thereby, make the monetary output and manpower that businesses must invest into getting their products sold and delivered, far easier to track, manage and enhance.

Services With Smooth Integration

The goal of every business then, is to select an e-commerce fulfillment option that can be seamlessly integrated with its existing operations. ?In such a partnership, a business remains able to solidify its brand and to retain any existing e-commerce team that it might have. ?With a seamless integration, these businesses can rise to meet the challenges that smarter technology and increasingly connected consumers have created.

Blog Archive ? Zeek Advantages Evaluation ? Is It the ?Real Deal??

Who is Zeek Rewards?Zeek Rewards may be the marketing arm of an online Penny Auction organization called Zeekler. Zeek Rewards has been in operation for the past two years, Their parent firm has been around for 14 years. They?re based in america which I feel is important because of its long term success. What makes this company distinctive may be the business model they?ve developed to attract customers. The standard business model for Penny Auctions firms is always to spend quite a bit of money in conventional marketing to attract customers for their on line auctions. For some of the larger Penny Auction organizations, this results in millions of dollars each month in online and offline marketing. Nevertheless the earnings in Penny Auctions are very good, it?s worth it for these businesses to spend millions attracting bidders since they make millions. What is Zeek Rewards Business Model? What Zeek Rewards decided to do was use a different approach to attract bidders. Instead of investing the money on conventional advertising, an affiliate type program is put together by them and they spend their affiliates a share of the daily earnings of the business. In exchange because of this revenue sharing, the affiliates support attract bidders worldwide by merely placing free classified advertisements on the internet that are produced by Zeek Rewards. The companys gives both the advertising copy and a list of classified advertisement web sites for the affiliates to post ads to.This is apparently quite a good business design. For the average indivdual that is looking for a way to make money online, a copy and paste system similar to this is pretty idiot proof. By issuing firm permitted classified ads and sites to post to, it reduces the chance an internet can get in trouble for posting the wrong information on banned web sites. I think more firms should conform procedures like this. Help your distributors succeed. Can You Really Earn Money in Zeek Rewards?Good question! I believe the potential is obviously there. On the web Penny Auctions are a total cash cow. There are over one thousand Penny Auction businesses around the globe. That industry has been overflowing since 2006. When you understand just how much profits these firms are taking in, there is no question that you could make money spreading in the company profits. Most Penny Auction organizations are privately placed. There is no means for the typical average person to produce money with these companies. Money buying bids can be only spent by them. Zeek Rewards allows reps to participate in the earnings of the company. I think e-commerce model is likely to be productive and must fuel Zeek Rewards for many years to come. While it?s still early in the game, all signs point out Zeek Rewards being genuine and not a con. Their success and endurance will be established by the reception they get from their affiliates, whether they pay profits promptly and handle their affiliates with respect. If you enjoy building an internet business, I recommend that you have a look at Zeek Rewards.

How To Deliver Your Promise - Building A Better Workplace

The sign on the front of the historic house turned restaurant read, ?Fine dining.? We took our seats in eager anticipation.

?? and it's served with a Vurblonk Sauce,? exclaimed our server to describe one of the dishes.

Assuming the sauce was a house specialty, I asked her to describe what a Vurblonk Sauce was.

?It's a white wine sauce,? she offered.

And then it hit me. ?Oh, you mean a 'vin-blanc' sauce.?

?Um, yeah. I'm not French,? she shrugged.

?Fine dining? may have described the food but not the experience. How often do businesses do that: make a promise to their customers and fall short because of a lack of communication with those who communicate directly with their cash-flow?

It is essential that front-line staff are educated, motivated and own the corporate mission. Otherwise, there's a let-down for both the employee and the customer.

Front-line managers, you have only ONE job: serve your staff so they may serve your customers. Communicate. Talk. Coach. Ask. Motivate. Inspire. Troubleshoot. Teach. And when you think they finally have it, do it again. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.

The more you engage your staff, the more likely they are to engage us ? your customers. But never assume that saying it once is enough. It rarely ever is.

Most kids might tell you they are fearful of seeing a Boca Raton Oral Dentist. The same can be said of older people, nonetheless, and these grownups can even actually have dental care anxiety, or a whole lot worse, dental care phobia.

In accordance with medical professionals, dental dread may be defined as the fear of dentistry or of obtaining dental care. Dental care phobia, on the other hand, might be deemed as an extreme and irrational fear of dentistry or of acquiring dental treatment. In some cases nevertheless, the term dental phobia is inappropriate, because some individuals might not find just what they are experiencing to be excessive or unreasonable dread.

Your dental care dread could prevent you from looking for dental help from local dentist, specially when you require it. When that takes place, get a Boca Raton dental professional who might offer to aid you without irritating your dental care worries and phobias.

One of the factors that could help ease your dental worries and fears is figuring out Boca Raton dental care processes you may have to undertake. Below are a few of them:

Cueto wins ML-best 17th, Reds top Diamondbacks 5-2

PHOENIX (AP) ? Johnny Cueto leads the majors in wins and has his sights set even higher.

Cueto scattered four hits over seven innings for his 17th victory and the Cincinnati Reds beat the slumping Arizona Diamondbacks 5-2 on Tuesday night.

"All I can promise is to try and keep going because I want to win 20 games," Cueto said through a translator. "I felt better as the game went on. I was able to gather more strength and continue."

Cueto (17-4) gave up two runs, struck out one and walked five for his eighth victory in nine decisions. The right-hander lowered his NL-leading ERA to 2.48.

"He's feeling it every time he goes out there," Reds manager Dusty Baker said.

Ryan Hanigan hit a two-run single and Todd Frazier added a two-run triple for the Reds, who won for the third time in four games and stretched their lead in the NL Central to seven games over St. Louis.

Jonathan Broxton pitched the eighth and Aroldis Chapman closed it out for his 33rd save and 25th straight, tied with Texas reliever Joe Nathan for the longest active streak in the majors.

Wade Miley (14-9) allowed three runs and seven hits over seven innings. He walked one and struck out five for the Diamondbacks, who have lost five straight and seven of nine.

"The first couple of innings everything was up," Miley said. "I was able to make the adjustment, but it didn't work out."

Arizona opened a 1-0 lead in the first when Gerardo Parra doubled, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jason Kubel.

But the Reds rallied in the second and flipped the momentum with a long at-bat.

Frazier led off the inning with a single and Miley got ahead of Scott Rolen 1-2. Rolen then fouled off two pitches, took a ball, fouled off two more, took a third ball and fouled off five pitches in a row before drawing a 15-pitch walk.

"I'd have rather singled on the first pitch," Rolen said.

Baker thought the battle affected Arizona's rookie left-hander.

"That took a whole inning out of him," Baker said. "Foul off a pitch, foul off a pitch ? he was trying everything. That takes a lot out of a pitcher."

Chris Heisey singled to load the bases and Frazier scored on a wild pitch before Hanigan lined a two-run single to center for a 3-1 lead.

John McDonald reached on a fielder's choice and scored on a double to left by Parra in the fifth to pull the Diamondbacks to 3-2.

Frazier tripled home Brandon Phillips and Ryan Ludwick in the eighth against Matt Lindstrom, who was making his Arizona debut after being traded from Baltimore for Joe Saunders on Sunday.

"We were just up the one run so that little cushion was helpful," Frazier said.

NOTES: Phillips stole second in the eighth, his 11th stolen base in 12 attempts. ... Miley needed 54 pitches to get through the first two innings but threw only 53 over his final five. ... Reds RHP Mat Latos (10-4) will look to bounce back from a rough outing when he pitches Wednesday against LHP Patrick Corbin (5-5). Latos allowed seven runs and nine hits Friday against St. Louis for his first loss since July 18. Corbin will be the third straight rookie the Diamondbacks send to the mound.

World Bank guarantees 4 Kenyan power projects for 285 MW

NAIROBI (Reuters) - The World Bank will partly guarantee generation projects by four Kenyan independent power generators that will jointly produce an additional 285 megawatts of electricity by 2014, it said on Tuesday.

Like other African states where blackouts are common due to generation shortfalls and ageing grids, east Africa's biggest economy is required to invest huge sums of money yearly, to meet growing demand for power, amid robust economic activity.

Johannes Zutt, the bank's country director for Kenya, said Thika Power, which will produce 87 MW by the end of the year, would be the first to benefit from the partial risk guarantees totalling $166 million.

"This... financing for the energy sector will enable Kenya to mobilise additional financing of $623 million, including $400 million in private investments and commercial lending," he said.

Partial risk guarantees offer comfort to investors who are assured of repayment in case of unforeseen risks like political upheavals, and usually act as an alternative to government guarantees, thus keeping public debt under control.

Other power producers to benefit from the bank's guarantees are Triumph Generating Company, Gulf Power and Ormat Technologies' OrPower 4, Zutt told a press briefing.

All four firms have power purchase agreements with Kenya Power, the state-controlled sole distributor of electricity.

The country has an installed capacity of 1,250 megawatts but power generating firms and the government are racing to keep up with the growing demand.

There is no shortage of independent firms willing to start generation projects, but they were hampered by lack of finance, Patrick Nyoike, the top official at the country's ministry of energy, told Reuters.

"(Lack of partial risk guarantees) is one of the major challenges. These power plants ought to have been up and running by June last year," said Nyoike, referring to the projects by Thika, Gulf and Triumph.

He said that once the generation from the project by Thika Power kicks in, it would help retire contracts signed by the government for provision of about 90 MW from expensive diesel plants ran by private firms.

Flags to fly at half-staff for Neil Armstrong

The astronaut who became the first man to walk on the moon has died at the age of 82. NBC's Kristen Dahlgren reports on tributes for him and the legacy he left behind.

By Alan Boyle

U.S. flags will be flying at half-staff around the world "as a mark of respect for the memory of Neil Armstrong," the first man to walk on the moon, President Barack Obama proclaimed today.

The half-staff tribute will take place on the day of Armstrong's burial and last until sunset. Exactly when will that be? Friday is the likeliest day ??but the plans for memorials are still taking shape, two days after Armstrong died of complications from heart surgery at the age of 82.

Today, NASA spokesman Bob Jacobs tweeted that a private, family memorial service would take place on Friday in Cincinnati, near the Armstrong family home in Indian Hill, Ohio. The Associated Press also said services would be held Friday. U.S. Sen. Rob Portman, an Ohio Republican who's a friend of the family, is due to give the eulogy, AP reported.

NASA Headquarters in Washington said that the details for the private as well as public memorial services were still in flux. "No details yet for a public memorial," Jacobs wrote.

Meanwhile, formal and informal memorials to the first moonwalker are proliferating. The Armstrong Air & Space Museum in Wapakoneta, Ohio, where Armstrong was born, is planning a memorial tribute on Wednesday night.

NASA has set up a "Share Your Thoughts" website where condolences can be left. There's also a "Wink at the Moon Night" website, sparked by the Armstrong family's request to look at the moon, "think of Neil Armstrong and give him a wink." The website is part of a campaign to make Aug. 25, the date of Armstrong's death, an annual Wink at the Moon Night.

Photoillustration by Jason Major via Twitter

NBC News' Cape Canaveral correspondent, Jay Barbree, told me in an email that the thought behind the request for winks was clear: "The family means that's where he'll be ??on the moon."

As I gave a wink last Saturday night, it struck me that the moon was already flying at half-staff, just one day after its first-quarter phase. Friday's full moon will be the second full moon of the month, and thus will mark a rare "blue moon." Armstrong's passing will surely make this moon as blue as it can be.

Tributes are continuing to stream in from VIPs. Here are a few that have crossed our desk since Saturday:

Robert Zubrin, president, Mars Society: "Neil Armstrong was a patriot and a pioneer. ?In every way he was an exemplar of the great human spirit which seeks to go where no one has gone, to know what has never been known, to do what has never been done.? His?life's story?calls to all of us to rise to our own higher natures, just as his immortal words when first setting foot on our neighbor world challenge us.? Will the Apollo 11 mission ultimately be remembered as a 'giant leap for mankind,' the first step in opening an infinite frontier?? Or will it recede into history as merely a grand stunt that led nowhere?? The answer to that question is up to us.? Let us therefore reflect on this great and good man's life, and resolve to?find and summon to action?the Neil Armstrong within?ourselves, so that he, and the nation that dared with him, did not dare in vain."

Frank DiBello, president, Space Florida: "Although Neil Armstrong had grown disillusioned with the debate, uncertainty and acrimony in Washington surrounding the post-shuttle direction of NASA, he remained a passionate and compelling advocate of the human exploration of space. We owe it to his memory to continue that quest. Indeed, our memory of this grand achievement is our collective heritage, and is our single most enduring symbol of American exceptionalism."

Bill Nye (the Science Guy), CEO, Planetary Society: "For people everywhere, Neil Armstrong was a hero, I think, not just because he did his dangerous job successfully, but because he was so matter-of-fact about his profession. It was a day at his office. We all owe him a debt. Just think how the word would be different, if he had crashed on the moon, or not managed to return from the moon, or missed the Earth on his way back. None of us would think of our place in the cosmos, our place in space differently.?Neil Armstrong raised the expectations, the hopes and dreams, of every human on Earth. Thanks to him, we all believe that humans can achieve great things -- that we can learn about our place among the stars -- that we can all reach up and out -- that we can fly, and change the world. It turns out, yours was a pretty big step after all. Thank you, sir." [Full statement]

Hugh Downs, former host of ABC's "20/20" and chairman of the National Space Society's Board of Governors:?"News of Neil Armstrong's passing is so shocking that there is no way it can be absorbed right away as reality. His position in history is deeper than that of any known discoverer or explorer in the history of this planet. As the first human to land on any world outside the Earth, and probably the first living creature of any sort to come from the Earth and reach the Moon, his legacy will be safe as long as intelligent life survives in this corner of the cosmos." [Full statement]

Neil deGrasse Tyson, director, Hayden Planetarium, via Twitter: "'Men Walk On Moon'?? The only positive event in the last 50 years for which everyone remembers where they were when it happened. ... Farewell, my friend. And now, perhaps more than ever, I bid you godspeed. ... The first crewed spacecraft to Mars should be named the 'Armstrong.' That works on so many levels."

A tribute to Ohio-born astronaut Neil Armstrong is displayed on stage at the Tampa Bay Times Forum on Sunday. The tribute was created during the run-up to the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla.

More about Neil Armstrong's life and legacy:

When Neil Armstrong had his heart surgery earlier this month, we collected get-well wishes and passed them along to the family via NBC's Jay Barbree. I can't promise that we'll be able to do likewise this time around, but please feel free to leave your condolences as comments below.

Increase Your Success With These Article Marketing Techniques ...

Increase Your Success With These Article Marketing Techniques

Is it true that articles can promote your business? Will you be able to find what you need to make it successful for you? A number of webmasters are already achieving great success with their article marketing plan by using it to effectively drive traffic to their website, and you can join their ranks by using the tips in the following article.

Promote your earlier articles in your more recent articles. You can link words in the current article to past pieces you have written. If your article is full of advice or helpful information, this is considered acceptable. Don?t be afraid to tell people how great your articles are!

Article Marketing

Hold your ideal reader in mind when you write and try to phrase your article as though you were speaking with a trusted friend. A friendly tone will make your articles easier to read. A conversational style to your article will give it a relaxed feel.

Staying current with online writing tools will improve your ability to produce good marketing prose in your articles. You can save your energy, time, and money by using the products that are coming out everyday related to article marketing. Get all the help that you can. Remember that article marketing is competitive!

Your articles need to be written with a high level of proficiency. Always submit work that you are proud of. Your website will gain trust and respect if the content is of high quality.

Submit as many quality articles as you can. Postin articles on a blog requires consistency. To successfully promote a single keyword, submit a multitude of articles that contain it. For competitive keywords, a minimum of five articles must be submitted to the directories, and the public blog networks must receive ten if you intend to see good results. Then follow that up with fifty articles to private blogs to improve your ranking further.

The headlines of your articles should make the reader want to find out more. People often skim headlines until they find something that grabs their attention. One way to write a compelling headline is to pose a question to your audience, so they have to read the article to find the answer. Make people emotionally invested in reading your article.

Ensure that the title on your article convinces people to come and read it. Make them think as they read your headline. The more you can engage the reader, the more likely they are to keep reading.

Including a strong, attention-grabbing opening in each article is essential. Base your hook on the article content.

You should not flood indexes with articles which contain identical content. There are countless article indexes to take advantage of with an article marketing strategy. A common trap is to submit an article repeatedly to hundreds of indexes. Doing so these days is just a waste of time. The engines are all wise to that trick and no longer rank these sorts of links heavily when determining ranking.

Do not use more than 5 sentences per paragraph and make sure the article is not more than 700 words. Most directories follow the 3-5 sentence/500-700 word criteria for article submissions, and applying it to your writings will ease the distribution of the articles. Blogs do not need to be as lengthy, so approximately 350 words is appropriate.

Use keywords within the titles of your articles. By having the important keywords in the title, viewers will be able to quickly spot your article and follow the link to see the entire content.

Many websites will publish your articles and pay you as well, via pay per click or pay per view. The articles you publish can provide multiple avenues for passive income. You can become very prosperous.

Article Marketing

Blogging is one of the best new ways to market your business; a blog can help you secure a place as a thought leader in your industry. Make articles that show who you are and promote your role as a professional and a leader. Talking about current trends in your industry will help customers and potential customers see that you are on top of things.

Article marketing isn?t a market that contains rarefied knowledge. If some guru tries to sell you a ?secret method?, run away screaming. Doing your own research can really make a difference. Just note that it?s simple, marketing that is handled through any content distribution is article marketing.

One way to increase sales derived from article marketing is to keep one keyword your main focus throughout the article. Use the keyword wherever possible, in the header, title, sub-headings and in the URL if possible. Also, use the keyword throughout the body of the article. By placing your keyword throughout your page, you increase the chance that a search engine will find your article.

Tips in article marketing can give you a great start in building your online presence and increasing your audience. Follow these tips to start having the results you want

If your content is worth linking, you will receive more backlinks from other webmasters. You may want to fill up your site with spun content. Be careful though, because if your articles have no value, webmasters will not share them, leaving you to get backlinks without any help. Writing useful and high quality content will attract other webmasters to share your content with their customers.

German lawmakers say "Grexit" not just economic risk

BERLIN (Reuters) - Germany's raucous internal debate on whether to keep Greece in the euro zone is too narrowly focused on financial factors and should also weigh up the wider geopolitical risks of a "Grexit", senior officials in Chancellor Angela Merkel's party say.

The comments show that influential members of the German leader's conservative Christian Democrats (CDU) have grave doubts about the wisdom of cutting Greece off, and could herald a more pragmatic approach by the government despite its tough rhetoric in recent weeks.

Greece's failure to meet fiscal targets under its multi-billion euro bailout programs has exasperated German politicians, leading some in Merkel's centre-right coalition to call for a Greek exit.

But Michael Meister, vice-chairman of Merkel's Christian Democrats (CDU) in the Bundestag lower house, said on Monday such a development could further destabilize the already troubled eastern Mediterranean region.

"I believe we have to open up the debate beyond the purely financial and economic dimensions," he said.

"Just look at the map and see where Greece is located," Meister added, noting its proximity to the Middle East, now racked by civil war in Syria, and to still-fragile parts of the Balkans.

His comments echoed those of another prominent CDU politician, Armin Laschet, who told Reuters at the weekend that a Greek exit could trigger undesirable upheaval in southern Europe.

"(An exit) could lead to instability in a NATO member state. Russia is standing ready with billions to help Greece in such a scenario," Laschet said. "Much more is at stake here than just the question of whether Greece meets the criteria (of its bailout)."

Both Laschet and Meister stressed the importance of Greece, now in its fifth year of recession, implementing the fiscal and other reforms agreed under its bailout packages.

But their comments suggest that Berlin could be more flexible than many have assumed if Greece fails to deliver on all its promises.

During a visit to Berlin last Friday, Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras lashed out at the "cacophony" of German criticism of his country, saying it was hampering his efforts to privatize firms and lure investors to rebuild the economy.

Samaras wants Germany and other euro zone partners to give Greece more time to meet its commitments because of the depth of its recession, though Merkel has responded coolly to the request.

She has made clear that no decisions on the Greek program can be taken until a report from Greece's international lenders - the "troika" of European Commission, European Central Bank and International Monetary Fund - is finished in October.

Merkel has also urged lawmakers to tone down their criticism of Greece, but some do not appear to be paying attention.

Alexander Dobrindt, a leading member of her CDU's Bavarian sister party, said in an interview published on Sunday he expected Greece to leave the euro by 2013.

However, some in financial markets have rowed back a little on the risk of a 'Grexit'. In a Reuters poll earlier this month 45 of 64 economists expected Greece to remain in the currency bloc in the next 12 months, compared with 35 of 64 economists in a similar poll in May.

Commerce director's bankruptcy is his 'life lesson' | Idaho Politics ...

A decade ago, Idaho?s Commerce director was awash in debt. But some say that makes him a more seasoned leader.

Jeff Sayer, Idaho?s Department of Commerce director, is the state?s head business marketing guy ? the go-to person for businesses looking to assess the risks of expanding or locating in Idaho.

And Sayer knows a thing or two about risk.

He once helped to improve a construction company in Salt Lake City and to turn around a small Idaho Falls hospital. But he also knows the bitter side of business failure.

A decade ago, clobbered by the dot-com bust and economic jabs from 9/11, Sayer filed for personal bankruptcy. He listed $38,952 in assets and $363,945 in liabilities. At the low point, he had $50 in his pocket and a business career in ashes.

Sayer?s bankruptcy never surfaced publicly as he was considered for the director?s job last fall. But he never hid it, either. Gov. Butch Otter and business leaders who in fall 2011 assessed Sayer?s leadership potential say he told them about his bankruptcy, answered their questions and left them feeling he had handled it about as well as anyone could. Several lawmakers who serve on the legislative committee that recommended his confirmation last winter told the Idaho Statesman they knew about it, too.

?I felt this was something (from which) he learned a good life lesson,? said Sen. Michelle Stennett, D-Ketchum, a member of the Idaho Senate Commerce and Human Resources Committee that recommended his confirmation.

Today, Sayer directs a state department that has 47 employees and a budget of $40 million.

His annual salary is $147,908.

As Sayer looks back on those earlier days, he says they were brutal.

?It?s a period I am not very proud of,? Sayer told the Idaho Statesman. ?I scrambled for about two years to try to salvage my situation and find a way out. It got to a point where it ran right over the top of me.?

Sayer, 50, grew up in Blackfoot. His brother, Doug, is president and CEO of Premier Technology, a Blackfoot company generally credited with steaming ahead and producing jobs through the tough economic times.

In 1999, Sayer was living in Salt Lake City with his wife and children. He went to work for Cornerstone, a venture capital firm, assessing small, young businesses as potential candidates for a cash infusion from the company. Cornerstone was trying to secure money from larger funds to invest in companies.

?We worked for about a year to get financial commitments,? he said.

Sayer was bringing home about $3,000 a month, not enough to cover the family?s expenses. ?I was taking a risk for getting compensated later,? he said.

He made up the difference with plastic. ?I was living on credit cards for that year.?

But by the early 2000s, financial chaos shook the Silicon Valley ? creating the dot-com bust ? and money for venture capital dried up, leaving Cornerstone with no money to put into companies.

?All of that just disappeared,? Sayer said.

TOO BIG A HOLE

By 2001, Sayer worked with some others to put life into Pretzelmania, a company that sold pretzels at 140 airports across the country. But after the terrorist attacks in September of that year, the business was decimated as new security regulations kept families from walking to the gate with passengers, buying pretzels along the way.

?It was more time and energy for no pay,? Sayer said.

Sayer ended up taking Pretzelmania through a Chapter 11 bankruptcy to reorganize the company in March 2002. He emerged with half ownership in a newly named corporation ? RFA Foods Inc., which stood for Rise From the Ashes, he said.

All the while, his financial condition darkened.

He took jobs as a consultant, and by 2002, he came to work for Carl Tippets, who ran Pentalon Construction in the Salt Lake City area and which does about $30 million annually in construction projects.

While there, he helped the company by establishing templates for finances and economic indicators, Tippets said. ?We still use all of those today.?

Sayer, however, wasn?t closing in on his financial problems.

So he left to work with a Portland seafood company. He declines to name the company.

?I was seeking those higher salaries that would give me just enough to start getting ahead of the monster and start making payments (and) working things out with the credit card companies,? he said.

But after six months, it was clear the move was a disaster, Sayer said. ?Wrong time. Wrong place.?

So he called Tippets and got his old job back.

Sayer said he tried to solve his debt problems. But he eventually came to realize that it would take him a decade to climb out of his financial hole. So after talking with friends and mentors, Sayer filed a Chapter 7 bankruptcy ? which is a liquidation of assets ? on April 15, 2003, while he was living in Portland. The personal bankruptcy protected his wife?s family from being drawn into his financial problems, he said.

By then, Sayer?s marriage was disintegrating. He and his wife of 16 years ended up divorcing in June 2004. His ex-wife did not return a phone call from the Idaho Statesman. He has four children and says he pays child support.

In 2008, he married Laurel Hall, former wife of one-time powerful Idaho Republican Blake Hall. They have no children.

BEHIND ON TAXES

Claims from creditors in the bankruptcy filing included more than $100,000 from credit cards.

Tax claims were $5,000 from the Utah State Tax Commission for 2002 state income tax and $3,500 from the Internal Revenue Service for 2001 income tax. The IRS also filed a claim for an estimated $15,000 for 2002 income tax.

?I was falling into the same trap as a lot of people, especially when you have self-employment income,? he said. When things get desperate, ?you often postpone paying taxes. My guess is I got to that point, and there was tax due on past income I hadn?t paid.?

The bankruptcy trustee sold Sayer?s half interest in RFA Foods Inc., the company that emerged from the failed pretzel enterprise, for $2,000, according to bankruptcy records.

Sayer said his assets were liquidated to produce about $2,500. About $2,000 went to pay claims, he said.

The bankruptcy was closed in January 2005.

But Sayer said he?s done more. He ended up paying a total of about $9,000 to Utah and the IRS and satisfied the tax obligation outside of the bankruptcy. Including the tax claims, Sayer has paid out between $20,000 and $30,000 beyond what was paid through the bankruptcy court. Much of it was to friends and family ?to let them know I haven?t forgotten the debt,? he said. ?To me it?s a priority and I will work to make that right in the future.?

He has yet to repay the credit card companies. ?That would be my ultimate goal,? he said.

He said he wants to pay back everything, but ?when and how it will ever happen, I can?t predict.?

AFTER BANKRUPTCY: REBUILDING

In early 2004, Sayer said his first wife asked him to leave the home where they were staying in Salt Lake City and, sobbing, he left the house and his children and spent much of the night driving around. He had $50.

?I spent that $50 on a hotel room, and I started the next day and I rebuilt from scratch,? he said.

He began by pitching himself as a chief financial officer for hire. He had left Pentalon, but Tippets, who said he had respect for the way Sayer handled his bankruptcy, became his first client. ?I would love to have him associated with my business again,? Tippets said.

Yet trying to get work as a financial officer in the midst of a bankruptcy wasn?t easy. Who would hire him?

?Some didn?t,? Sayer said.

But for nearly four years, working from a basement apartment he rented from a friend, Sayer built his CFO-for-hire business.

STRENGTHENING A HOSPITAL

Then, James Adamson called.

Adamson, who is an investor and company leader in about 100 companies in health care and foods, knew Sayer from his Cornerstone days.

Adamson was CEO at Mountain View Hospital in Idaho Falls, a small, 20-bed hospital ?that was struggling mightily? in 2004, Adamson said.

He needed someone with Idaho roots, good communication skills and a sharp mind for numbers to help shore up the hospital. What started as a consultant job grew to be the company presidency and CFO.

The hospital, which was doing $25 million in revenues in 2004, is up to $140 million, Adamson said. It grew from a single location to 17 locations that include Rexburg and Pocatello. Mountain View expanded services, including speech therapy and imaging, in eastern Idaho.

?I give him a ton of credit,? Adamson said. ?He worked like hell.?

Sayer left in 2010 to work his CFO-for-hire business in Idaho. And in 2011, he got a call from Otter?s office that he was on a short list of candidates for the job as Idaho Department of Commerce director.

Otter was impressed by his body of work, including beefing up Mountain View Hospital, said Mark Warbis, Otter?s communications director.

?WE KNEW ABOUT IT?

When Sayer met with the governor?s staff, he told them, ?you have to be aware ... I have a skeleton in my closet,? Sayer recalled telling them.

?We knew about it from the very beginning,? Warbis said. ?He had experienced this setback and ... not only gets back to even but gets well ahead,? Warbis said.

Otter chose not to air Sayer?s bankruptcy.

The director is not an elected position and is responsible to the governor, Warbis said.

?He understood and he appreciated not only Jeff?s situation but the fact that he had been so ... transparent with us.?

At the confirmation hearing in the Senate Commerce and Human Resources committee, several senators had already been apprised by Sayer of his bankruptcy and saw no reason to bring it up.

?Who better to lead our Department of Commerce than someone who has been out there in the work world, who?s bumped his nose and picked himself up and moved forward,? said Sen. Dean Cameron, co-chairman of the Legislature?s budget committee and a member of the Senate commerce committee.

Sayer?s bankruptcy impacted his life, say those who know him. Tippets thinks it left him a little more risk averse.

What Idaho got with Sayer was a man who knows what it is like to be super successful and someone who has experienced business failure, Adamson said. ?He is going to understand the idea of risk.?

Looking back on his bankruptcy, Sayer said he learned ?things can go wrong. You need to be careful.?

He also says, ?I found out I could start with nothing and become somebody.?

Those years as a CFO-for-hire and at Mountain View taught him he had the capacity of stepping into the limelight and being in a leadership role, he said.

?I found I could figure it out,? he said.

I want to solder new faucet in, but not licensed-need ur help ...

Question by Kraze: I want to solder new faucet in, but not licensed-need ur help professional plumbers?
I have extreme experience in arlington ma plumbing, among other trades and I want to install a new shower faucet and such, but the apartment wont? let me cause I dont? hold a license in this state,

Since this is an condo I never encountered this. I got the hotwater figured out, question is the main cold supply. But is there some way around this?? perhaps i could cut the pipe, then quickly attach a compression shutoff supply then go from there. I would think this would be an idea, I?m going to test this theory with another supply with a shutoff before I attempt but main importance is homeowners dont? care, and are really fustrated that about the situation, and said if i can get aroudn it to do it, They own the condo, and it should be their right to do it.
So any suggestions from professional plumbers?
Yep thats right, years of experience, over 14 to be exact, electrical, arlington ma plumbing hvac, roofing, new homes, additions remodeling, foundations,
Now im experienced as in own a ?sucessfull? company, I do all trades therefore am not master of none. I know arlington ma plumbing many roughins many many remodels, jacuzzis, sunken and surface, copper sweating no problem,
So in saying this, Its a condo, as in you have to jump through hoops, I am out of state, visiting family. They want their bathroom remodeled, All I need is the water off for 5 minutes, to solder a shutoff on there, But they want a licensed Arlington MA Plumber. NOW?If I didnt? know what I was doing then ok, perhaps, but only hold back is fact that they want that paper, Where Im at they wants $ 350 just to come out. And the reason im in a hurry is because I need to get back to my state so I can continue my companys business.
Now I have always been able to shut off water everywhere I been, this is new to me. Just looking for solutions
Well tech, by your name Im taking it you could be experience in computers not home improvement, so this question is out of your league. I asked for PROFESSIONAL PLUMBERS but guess the points for any answer sufficed.
If there are NO real answers to this solutions then leave it at that. I dont? care if the question isn?t right with you, What isnt? right is not allowing me to shutoff the water in order to do the work. I don?t care who inspects the work or otherwise, but let me tell you about licensed professionals they are nothing but overpriced labor cause they know they are the only ones allowed(not qualified) to do the work. The reason behind this is because city inspectors are to lazy to actually take responsibility for their inspections, but im not goign to get into this.
Point is serious question, PROFESSIONAL
Point is seriuos question, Professional opinions only. water off, NO PROBLEM,
So yeh years of experience, and this is a question way beyond your intelligence.Your answer told me nothign I already didn?t know, drywall? pipes behind a wall? are you kidding me? Yeh, its all goign bye, the tub/vanity/sink, floor, is bye, new electric, so yeh this is a bathroom renovation, which is why I need an answer from experience.
Now?car dude, Yes I understand the place is shared, the pipes that come into their bathroom they own, they own shower, they own the supply. You could be right about what you say, could be and if you are a true home contractor i?ll respect your answer. But with all due respect im asking for a solution to my problem, if there is not a solution, then so be it, if its never been done then great. thats why im researching my QUESTION. Any Plumbers out there?
Oh yeh forgot one more thing, techie I know that compression fitting shouldnt? be used inside walls, and are made for a temporary fix. This is commonsense 101, however
1. there is access to the arlington ma plumbing
2. this is a temporary fix until they either move, or they grant me the right to turn off the water, However I 85% disagree with you about the fittings not being behidn a wall. I have renovated old homes back in the 50?s. Even though they are not regulated by most codes, people and PROFESSIONAL plumbers do ocassionally use these. I say 85% cause they can hairline crack under pressure, but since there is access guess what???it will be fine?just use pipe dope.
so do your research before answering, and dont? assume I dont? know how to do something that I say I do.
Ok got a solution to my problem. But I want to make somethign clear for anyone who looks at this. When somebody ask a question they are asking for an answer, DO NOT give your opinions on whether it should or shouldnt? be done, unless they ask. If you do not know the solution keep your MOUTH SHUT! You are just making yourself look stupid.
now for the money it cost for a Arlington MA Plumber I got a new tool and solution to future problems, I feel so sorry for people who rely on others to fix problems in their life, always taking the easy way out by having someone do it for them. Will never have the feeling of accomplishment.
The ONLY thing a licensed Arlington MA Plumber can do that i can?t 100% of the time is use his license to get approval. Does not make him ANY more qualified than me.

You are asking for trouble and a possible lawsuit and eviction. The shower faucet is typically inside the wall, which means that you?ve got to knock a hole in the wall that will later need to be patched. Then you?ve got to remove the old faucet and install the new faucet. This is a major undertaking and you?ve got to know what you are doing.

You propose to cut the cold water pipe and quickly attach a compression shutoff valve. There are at least two things wrong with this idea. First, you should never cut into a pipe unless the water is turned off. You may think you can quickly cap off the open pipe, but you?ve also got a good chance of causing extensive water damage. The second mistake is that you should never, ever use a compression fitting in a concealed space inside a wall. The problem is that a leak could develop with a compression fitting, and you would not know it until the damage had been done.

I suggest that perhaps you don?t have extreme experience in arlington ma plumbing at all. You should not attempt this project by yourself. It would be far cheaper by the time you are done to have hired a licensed professional.
