Project Pink: The road hasn't always been easy, but it's great to be a breast cancer survivor

Provided by Marsha Biddar

Marsha Biddar shared her story with the Times-Union to help observe October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

When I was 30 years old and a single mother of a 4-year-old boy, I thought the decision to get braces on my teeth was about as much stress as I could handle.

Little did I know that I would be mourning the loss of my mother from a tragic auto accident, watching my father die of a broken heart and be diagnosed with breast cancer.

I?m now retired after a 27-year career in insurance management. I?m married to the great love of my life. I?m about to begin a new career as a CNA. My little boy has his own wonderful family and is the CEO of his company.

I turned 65 last month. I haven?t had a reoccurrence, but the road has not always been easy. I?ve had 14 reconstruction surgeries, so why do I feel like the luckiest girl in the world?

Because I?m here to tell the story.
